We Distort, You Abide: What's the point of doing this, other than basic audience manipulation? Will we believe their translation to be more faithful when read with an "appropriate" accent? Do they have some reason to believe that we suspect their translation? Are they afraid we might? I don't doubt that this goes on all the time; it's 60 Minutes, after all, an "infotainment" show. But do you think they'd do it on CBS Evening News, too? I bet they would.
