Dumb Rule!: Mark Roe and Jesper Parnevik broke one of the most critical rules of golf on Saturday and have been disqualified fro the British Open. The competitors unforgivingly neglected to exchange scorecards on the first tee, recorded each other's scores on their own card, and then had the temerity to sign those scorecards and attempt to pass them off as legitimate. Obviously they were trying to pull a fast one on the R&A and the world.

Or, maybe Roe shot a 67, god and everybody saw him do it, a walking scorer assigned to the group recorded it, and Parnevik accurately recorded it, albeit on a peice of paper that happened to say "Jesper Parnevik" in the upper left-hand corner, instead of "Mark Roe."

Many of the rules of golf seem anachronistic and pointless, but are actually quite appropriate and need to remain. Rule 6-6 is not one of them. The "Royal Ancients" and the USGA/PGA Tour need to reevaluate this rule because it is silly and pointless. Mark Roe would have been playing in the penultimate group on Sunday. The committe should have granted a reprieve and allowed him and Jesper to compete (although Jesper was probably ready to go home after a Saturday 81 that put him 15 over par).
