Match play:: Tennis is match play. Because golf can essentially be played "against the course" or "against par," most tournaments switched to medal or stroke play. It works a lot better on tv because your star doesn't get bounced in the first round (though he can miss the cut after two rounds) and matches can end as soon as one player wins enough holes. If Tiger closes out Phil 7 holes up with 6 to play, CBS's ratings are shot. But watching a match between two people (or four, as in the Ryder and Presidents Cup matches) is always more exciting. Or so cranks like me like to say every few years.

Incidentally, Mickelson's three under. Good thing I don't pick 'em for a living.

Whoops, now he's four under. If anyone's interested in live coverage, go here.
