More California: Some of the best commentary on the recall has been coming from California hand Bill Whalen, over at the Weekly Standard. He's had several pieces of analysis this week, all of them smart and well off the trail worn thin by conventional wisdom. Today he comments on an unusual endorsement of Gray Davis. You wouldn't usually accept an endorsement from a woman you once had a summer fling with, particularly if she was below the age of consent at the time. But, hell, why not make an exception for Cybill Shepherd.

Meanwhile, fellow Standard columnist Hugh Hewitt thinks "Good Constituent Service" is Gray Davis's motto when it comes to Indian affairs (read: gambling lobby). It has a much nicer ring than "Reversing My Position to Cater to Special Interests Who Can Offer Me Support in the Recall."
